Happy Hump Day!
Here are the last two books I
read flew through because I stayed up all hours reading.
The Dinner Party
"Sometime back in seventh grade, Lainie and Miya pinky swore to attend the same college, snag gorgeous husbands, and live next door to one another for the rest of their lives. But is post-grad life ever what one imagines?"
This is what I would label a good "beach novel." It's pure mindless entertainment. Friends, jealousy, adultery, broken friendships, engagements, broken engagements, online dating, and happy endings. If you're looking for a light read, go for it!
And When She Was Good
"When Hector Lewis told his daughter that she had a nothing face, it was just another bit of tossed-off cruelty from a man who specialized in harsh words and harsher deeds. But twenty years later, Heloise considers it a blessing to be a person who knows how to avoid attention. In the comfortable suburb where she lives, she's just a mom, the youngish widow with a forgettable job who somehow never misses a soccer game or a school play. In the state capitol, she's the redheaded lobbyist with a good cause and a mediocre track record. But in discreet hotel rooms throughout the area, she's the woman of your dreams—if you can afford her hourly fee."
What a page turner! Though I can't relate to the suburban madam theme of the book, I see eye-to-eye with the mother who would do anything to protect her child. This novel can get a bit graphic at times, so don't bother if you're squeamish or easily offended. It has an original subject matter and is action packed. Read it!
