This Is Why I Don't DIY

So, I've been going through a break-up over the past few weeks...
with a picture frame.

I bought this little fixer-upper with high hopes of changing it.  Big mistake.  It resisted every step of the way.  In my defense, the perfect, inexpensive 9 x 12 frame is hard to come by.  Lesson learned.  I should have just held out until the right one came along.

I've had bad experiences with spray paint in the past, so I opted for this brush on paint.  Big mistake #2.

Here's the heinous lovely bronze number with one coat of paint.

Here it is after about 10 coats.  Still heinous.

I gave up.
We're no longer on speaking terms and I can't bear to look at it.

Maybe one day (since it's already pretty much ruined) I'll give the ole spray paint a whirl and see what happens.  I'm thinking something bright and bold.  What do I have to lose?

I did, finally, find a suitable replacement that did not require any work.  Here are the 3 adorable watercolor paintings from the talented Sarah Swanson finally hung (about 9 months later) in my oldest stepdaughter's room.

She's going to be so excited!  It was worth the wait.

I also picked up this amazing creature for her at Anthropology today.  I can't wait for her to see it.

My younger stepdaughter is going to be thrilled with this framed elephant print (a page ripped out of the Bergdorff Goodman catalog) and these two cuties from Anthropology.

I'd call it a DIY fail that was ultimately saved.  I'll take it.

p.s.  Why do I drink Baby Mama Juice?

1.  Because I went downtown today to return 2 purchases and I ended up with all of this.
Hello my name is Amy and I have a shopping addiction.
I also hate metered parking spaces.

2.  Because I had to attend the neighborhood Home Owners Association meeting last night to present the Neighborhood Watch Committee that I got roped into chairing.  I felt like I was on trial.  They are reviewing what I presented and are actually considering forbidding it because of liability reasons.  Craziest thing I've ever heard.

  2. Spray paint can work miracles so don't give up. It is not an addiction, you are simple a talented shopper! And I am with Jill, I need to hear more about your HOA...

  3. I tried painting some mdf once and it was not working...found out you can mix some wood glue with some water...paint that on whatever you're wanting to paint, let it dry and then the paint should work okay. Idk if it'd work with that frame though! I'm also curious about the HOA!
