Back To Nature

You may want to sit down for this.

I fired all of my skin care products.

I, shamefully, have more bottles than I can count of half (and sometimes barely) used products that didn't live up to my ridiculously high expectations.

Literally, I probably have hundreds of bottles of products.

My skin is getting older. That means wrinkles, dry skin, larger pores, bags under the eyes, and sagging skin. Ugh.

My skin is also super sensitive.  I can just look at a heavy, perfumed product and break out. Ew.

I wanted to try a popular brand of anti-aging products in November and bought a (not-so-cheap) box set.  My face was drier than ever and I was looking positively haggard.  My skin was truly peeling off around my nose and mouth.  That's not the look I was going for.

I was told a while ago that clear aloe vera works wonders on skin.  I also know many people who swear by coconut oil but I was always afraid it would be too greasy for my face.  I have combination skin and didn't want to create an oil pit situation.

I decided to give them a try.  After all, they're a fraction of the cost I was spending on the other products that weren't delivering.  If they didn't work, I wouldn't be losing hundreds of dollars...just $29 to be exact.

I ordered some organic aloe vera and coconut oil from Amazon and waited with baited breath (and peeling skin) until they came.   Don't worry, they're both on Amazon Prime so it was just 2 days.

                Aloe Vera Gel  $16.99

Coconut Oil  $12.28

Well, low and behold, it's the perfect combination and I'm so glad that I went back to nature with my skin care!

At night, I put the aloe on my face first and then put a generous layer of coconut oil on top and go to bed.  I actually use the coconut oil all over my body.  Warning:  It smells like cookies so it may lead to stomach growls.

In the morning, I apply a thin layer of coconut oil as a moisturizer.  I then apply my make-up as usual.

That's it.

I literally fired the millions of products I was using.  No more face serums, eye serums, eye creams, moisturizers, etc, etc, etc.  No more dry skin, less wrinkles, smaller pores, no break outs, and my melasma is miraculously fading too (I think that's the aloe).

My face is thanking me for it!  Not to mention my bank account!

p.s.  Why do I drink Baby Mama Juice?  Because I went to see the movie "Wild" with some friends last week.  I can't recommend it enough.  It was such a moving (and true) story and Reese Witherspoon delivered an Oscar-worthy performance.  I can't stop thinking about it so I started reading the book to get more details of this woman's amazing journey.

  8. That picture is grossing me out!!! Ewww what is she?! Isn't it funny when the simplest things work wonders? I use basic olive oil to remove eye makeup and I know everyone raves about expensive stuff but olive oil is cheap and does the job! Glad you've found something that works!

  9. I finally purchased another (different brand) of coconut oil and what a difference! I recently started rubbing it into my cuticles and nails.....what a difference. I have been sooooo fearful about my face though for breakout reasons but if you're telling me it has been okay......I think I may jump on it! Never thought of the aloe with it. I think I need to get on prime and order it up! Thanks so much for these recs!

  10. Thank you for sharing! I need to give it a try. Every time I go to my derm she swears all I need (at 28) is Retin A, but it gets me really flaky and dry in the climate here.
