Scrub A Dub Dub

This is a public service announcement.

Warning:  This may make you feel light-headed, dull-skinned, and like a complete skin care failure.

I almost fell off the stool at the make-up counter when I heard this little nugget.

Did you know that the Clarisonic brush cleaner doesn't exfoliate?

Yeah, that makes two of us.

It only deep cleans. So, all of those times that I scrubbed and scrubbed and scrubbed trying to exfoliate and get rid of my fine lines and wrinkles, and dull, dead, skin cells was a complete waste of time.

Don't get me wrong, I love my Clarisonic and think it does a marvelous job getting deep down into my pores and getting the gunk out.  But, I thought it was doing double duty.

I did some research and found this gentle exfoliating scrub by The Body Shop that can be used daily.  It's aloe vera based, and we all know that I'm obsessed with aloe (read more about that here).  Though,  I think I used it a little too much because my face became a bit irritated with my daily, violent scrubbing.  I just couldn't help myself.  I have many exfoliation free years to make up for.

These are some other exfoliating scrubs that I would love to try.

Do you have any exfoliators that you can't live without or were you also living in my "Clarisonic does my exfoliating fantasy land"?

p.s.  Why do I drink Baby Mama Juice?  Because when a friend tells me that she is reading my blog and gives me examples of the things she thought were interesting or funny, it totally makes my day and motivates me to keep writing.  We are all busy and have tons of things going on in our lives, but the fact that some of my friends take the time and effort to read Baby Mama Juice means so much to me. So, if you're reading, thanks Carrie and all of my other reader friends!!!

  1. hahah as i type this i am wearing the glam glow mask! when my roommate walked in the door i had to warn here "don't look, i have black face on." yeah, i thought the clarisonic exfoliated too. rude. you know what else i found out the hard way? DO NOT rub it over your eyelashes. i was doing that to get my makeup off and my eyelashes were falling out! so sad. thank god i learned, i almost thought they were gone forever.

  2. ohh good to know! i dont have a clairsonic bc i was nervous that it would be too harsh on my sensitive skin but i have tried some tata harper products and i LOVE them! xo jillian - cornflake dreams

  3. You have got to try this!!!

It's called Tatcha and it was made because someone noticed the Geisha's had the most beautiful skin. I got a sample and I'm hooked!! “The true secret to the geisha’s radiant skin is gentle, daily exfoliation. The Polished Classic Rice Enzyme Powder softens, exfoliates, and conditions, revealing baby-soft skin every day. I am delighted to tell you that your purchase of a Tatcha skincare item will send an incredible girl to school for day through our Beautiful Faces, Beautiful Futures partnership.”—Victoria Tsai

  4. I love the Body Shop and aloe so I'm totally going to give that a go. Have a great weekend Amy. (:

  5. I love the Beautycounter exfoliator since it’s so gentle, but great at removing dead skin and build up!

  6. You have inspired me to use coconut oil at night. I am loving it so far! I love your skin recommendations!

  7. Honest to Goodness, totally thought my Clarisonic was exfoliating!! Dang!

  8. I had no clue! Thank you for sharing. I always love good skincare tips!

  9. I also have a Clarisonic and absolutely LOVE Dr Brandt's Microdermabrasion skin exfoliant. You can only use it once or twice a week. Also, I have completely flipped over Mario Badescu's moisturizers, specifically the AHA and Ceramide, Hyaluronic moisturizer, and the Seaweed Night Cream. My skin has never felt so great. I turned 4* thioast year and have been a Clinique devotee forever. It was time to step up my game.

  10. I use Laura Mercier "Flawless Skin Face Polish" as my exfoliant. It lasts forever and I use it 1-2 times a week. A little goes a long way — a tiny amount feels just rough enough! I'd try a sample (if you can) before buying the full bottle.

A toast to you for sharing your thoughts!
